For the past twenty-three years, ISIS has focused its activities in these primary subject areas:
- Fuel contract negotiation and fuel forecasting, particularly for coal (hard coal and lignite) and natural gas.
- Typical projects have included fuel supply due diligence and logistics for coal, fuel oil, gas, oil shale and orimulsion; negotiation of the full text of contracts for coal (hard coal and lignite), gas supply, and transportation; forecasting of future supply, demand, and prices for coal, oil, gas, and orimulsion; analyses of combustion waste disposal including ash and scrubber sludge.
- In the course of this work ISIS has developed a database of over 260 full text fuel supply contracts from the US and more than 25 overseas countries.
- CO2 emissions trading and Greenhouse gas abatement.
- Typical assignments have included CO2 price forecasts; landfill gas projects; mine methane utilization; preparation of early action claims; preparation of compliance and lobbying strategies; best practices report on biomass and biogas projects; various reports on CCS; reports on smart grid technology; electric vehicles, use of ethanol and biogas in automobiles; new solar technologies; review of CDM and JI projects.
- Fuel supply and Independent Power Project (IPP) contract arbitration, litigation, and rate case proceedings.
- Typical assignments have included expert opinions on commercial terms and provisions in IPP and fuel supply contract disputes; insurance litigation involving commodities trading; fraud-related litigation; pricing disputes for steam and metallurgical coal; coal related antitrust litigation.
- Independent power development and project acquisition, domestic and overseas.
- Typical projects included acquisition due diligence, particularly for privatizations in Central and Eastern Europe; market assessments, particularly focusing on market structure (liberalization measures and regulation); and competitor analysis and forecasts of market growth (electricity demand and supply).
- In the course of this work ISIS has assembled an extensive database (over 300 documents) of power supply contracts from most US states and 22 overseas countries.
After initially focusing its activities in North America and Asia, ISIS has gained project experience in 55 countries with most years involving activities on four continents. ISIS’ client list has grown from American companies pursuing a globalization strategy to include numerous local companies in Europe and Asia.
